At Main St. ESL Child Care, for family literacy day, we will be exploring letters through art, simple games, fishing letters, alphabet cookie cutters with play-dough, and including literacy-related props in the dramatic area. Here, we are implementing the “play” principle. At circle time, we'll be sharing lots of books with props and puppets and we will be asking the parents to join us on the 25th. At the end of the day, we'll give each parent a card with their children’s photos spending time with books, their scribbles, and some tips on family literacy; this way we are implementing the “partnerships with families” principle. We made a simple lending library at our entrance for the parents to take books home. We included books in several languages (Farsi, Arabic, French, Spanish) so we are implementing the principle of “diversity and inclusion”.
